Pickleball Nova Scotia 2019 AGM

Pickleball Nova Scotia will hold its Annual General Meeting on Sunday, June 2nd  at the St. Margaret’s Centre in Tantallon.  The meeting will run from 11:30 AM until 1:30 PM and will be followed by pickleball in the gym from 1:30 until 3:00 pm for those in attendance.

One very important item of business will be the ratification of the By-Laws for PNS These By-laws have not been updated since 2011.  All PNS members will receive a copy of the By-Laws via email prior to the AGM.

Please also note that a number of positions on the Board are open and will be voted on at the meeting.  The positions available include the following:  President, Vice-President, Treasurer and two Directors-at-Large.  All terms are for two (2) years.

The President and Vice-President positions are currently being filled on an interim basis by Dan Smith and Pat Morrison.

The PNS Board generally meets about ten (10) times throughout the year (once a month from September through to June).  Due to the distance some board members have to travel, attendance at meetings can be arranged by teleconference call.

If you are interested in sitting on the Board, or would like additional information on any of these positions, please contact Dawn Hobson at hobson@ns.sympatico.ca to express interest, or to nominate an individual.

Details

•       unless otherwise indicated, all clinics are the same.  The clinic is very “interactive”, with a real emphasis on the fundamentals.  In addition, the “proper way” to play (technically and tactically) is stressed.  You will be shown a variety of skills and techniques to improve your play, and perhaps just as important, to learn more about “the game”.

•       unless otherwise indicated, all clinics are open to all Pickleball Nova Scotia members and all skill levels (inc. beginners).  Participants will be grouped by skill level, on different courts.

•       Both Brooke Siver and Mike Seifert will be instructing at every clinic.  So you will get 2 IPTPA certified instructors mixing among all participants.

•       there will be a maximum of 4 per court.  Therefore, if 4 courts are available, registration will be stopped at 16.  For a “3 court clinic”, registration will be capped at 12.

•       you can register for any clinic by sending your name and the mobile number you can be reached at via text along with your preferred clinic date and time to Mike Seifert at mkscanada@icloud.com.

•       The cost for attending a clinic is $30 for the 2.5 hour session.

•       If there is enough demand, we will arrange an informal evening of “Pickleball Talks” and pizza on Wednesday evening (19th) from 18:30 – 21:00.  There would be a “meet and greet” and then Brooke will give a talk: “Pickleball in Canada: The Past, The Present, The Future”.  After that, there will be a Q&A session.  Tickets would be $10 with pizza, $5 without.  If you are interested in attending, email Mike Seifert – mkscanada@icloud.com

•       Anyone interested in private lessons with Brooke can contact Mike Seifert at mkscanada@icloud.com.  Rates are based on a $40 per person per group of 4 “formula” for a 2 hour lesson.  That said, any “arrangement” can be handled by Brooke, depending on when and where the lesson may need to take place.
For further information:

  1. visit the Pickleball Nova Scotia website for daily updates.
  2. another “broadcast” email may be sent out next week, if required.
  3. text “alerts” to clinic participants, only if required (i.e. weather).
  4. contact Mike Seifert at mksccanada@icloud.com for additional information

National Pickleball Day August 11, 2018

Saturday, August 11th is National Pickleball Day and Pickleball Nova Scotia is encouraging all clubs and venues throughout the province to book their facilities for pickleball play.

It is up to the club what they want to arrange for their session.  For example, it could be a king and queen of the court competition or an “introduce a new player to pickleball” day.  Or they can simply host an open playing session for fun.  If you would any like other ideas, let us know.

If your club or group is interested, please contact Raelene Kucyk by email at kucykraelene@gmail.com as we would like to know which clubs/groups are celebrating National Pickleball Day.  After the event, let us know how you celebrated and include a group photo to show the fun you had so we can add it to the next issue of our newsletter “Around the Post”.

Thank you all for your support and participation and we look forward to seeing how many groups celebrate National Pickleball Day on August 11th.

Raelene Kucyk
Vice President – Pickleball Nova Scotia
