Along with our National Sports Organization – Pickleball Canada (PCO) – we recognize the importance of screening individuals who are in a position of trust, who direct or have authority over others within PCO or Pickleball Nova Scotia (PNS) or who have access to PCO or PNS finances. As a result, PCO and PNS must take steps to protect our staff, volunteers and participants.
This policy applies to all individuals whose position with Pickleball Canada or Pickleball Nova Scotia is one of trust or authority related to, at a minimum, finances, supervision or unsupervised access to children/youth or vulnerable adults[1].
[1] A vulnerable person is defined in section 6.3 of the Criminal Records Act, as a person who, because of age, a disability, or other circumstances, whether temporary or permanent are (a) in a position of dependence on others or (b) are otherwise at a greater risk than the general population of being harmed by a person in a position or authority or trust relative to them. There are measures in place to ensure people convicted of sexually-based offences do not work with the vulnerable sector.
